Peripheral Artery Disease

Restoring Circulation and Preventing Complications in the Legs

  • Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is a condition where arteries in the legs become narrowed due to plaque buildup, restricting blood flow. It can cause leg pain while walking (claudication), foot numbness, cold limbs, skin discolouration, and in severe cases, non-healing wounds or gangrene. Without treatment, PAD increases the risk of limb loss and cardiovascular events.
  • Dr. Praveen offers minimally invasive endovascular procedures to treat PAD and restore circulation. After identifying the location and extent of the blockage using angiography, a small balloon is passed through the artery and inflated to widen the narrowed segment. In more resistant cases, stents may be placed to keep the artery open. The procedure is image-guided, done through a pinhole access, and performed under local anaesthesia.
  • Most patients are discharged the same day or after a short observation period. Recovery is quick, and patients often experience improved walking distance, reduced pain, and better wound healing. Timely PAD treatment helps avoid ulcers, infections, and amputations, particularly in diabetic or high-risk individuals.
  • If you experience leg cramps while walking, rest pain, or skin changes in your feet and toes, it’s important to get evaluated. PAD often progresses silently, and early intervention can significantly improve quality of life and mobility.
