Diabetic Foot Revascularisation

Limb-Saving Treatment for Non-Healing Wounds and Poor Circulation

  • Diabetic foot problems are a serious and often overlooked complication of long-standing diabetes. Poor blood circulation in the legs and feet can lead to delayed wound healing, frequent infections, blackened toes, and in severe cases, the threat of amputation. But with timely vascular intervention, many of these complications can be avoided. Diabetic foot revascularisation is a minimally invasive procedure that helps restore blood flow and supports healing of non-healing ulcers and gangrenous areas.
  • Using advanced imaging techniques, Dr. Praveen identifies areas where blood flow is blocked or severely reduced. Through a small access point, a balloon catheter is inserted and guided to the narrowed artery. Once in position, the balloon is gently inflated to open the vessel, and if necessary, a stent may be placed to keep it open. This improves blood supply to the foot, supports natural healing, and helps prevent tissue loss.
  • This approach eliminates the need for vein stripping surgery and allows patients to return to daily life with minimal interruption. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, usually takes less than one hour, and patients are often able to walk out of the clinic the same day. For optimal healing, a compression stocking may be recommended for a short period.
  • The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia with sedation and usually does not require overnight admission. Most patients notice a reduction in pain and an improvement in wound healing within days to weeks. In combination with proper foot care, antibiotics, and wound dressings, this treatment can significantly reduce the need for major amputation.
  • Early referral is key. Many patients present late, when tissue damage is already advanced. If you have a foot wound that is not healing, blackened toes, or reduced foot pulses, this procedure can play a vital role in preserving your limb and independence.
